Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence in simple words is implementing human senses in machines. Artificial Intelligence (AI) allows machines to perceive, learn how to make inputs, modify them and perform just like a human being. The field was founded on the claim that human intelligence can be so precisely described that a machine can be made to simulate it.  AI is an interdisciplinary science with multiple approaches, but advancements in machine learning are creating a significant shift in virtually every sector of the tech industry.

The idea behind artificial intelligence was to replicate the human brain into a machine, the approach was to think and act humanly and rationally. A few examples of AI consist:

  • Google search
  • Image recognition software
  • Siri, Alexa and other personal assistants
  • Self-driving cars

Types of AI

Narrow AI

Dedicated for one task

ai-type-1

Narrow AI is where the systems are taught how to carry out specific tasks without being explicitly programmed. Emerging applications for narrow AI: interpreting video feeds from drones, responding to customer-service queries, coordinating with other intelligent systems to carry out tasks like booking a hotel at a suitable time and location.

General AI

Perform like human

ai-type-2

Artificial general intelligence is very different, and is the type of adaptable intellect found in humans, a flexible form of intelligence capable of learning how to carry out vastly different tasks, anything from haircutting to building spreadsheets, or to reason about a wide variety of topics based on its accumulated experience.

Super AI

Outperform Humans

ai-type-3

ASI will be the most potent form of intelligence which will surpass human intelligence and perform all the tasks better than humans with cognitive properties. Strong AI capabilities include ability to think, reason, solve the puzzle, make judgments, learn and communicate by its own but we still have a long way to reach this stage.

How are million-dollar companies using AI to generate business?

Siri

Everyone is familiar with Apple’s personal assistant, Siri. She’s the friendly voice-activated computer that helps us find information, gives us directions, and adds events to. Siri is a pseudo-intelligent digital personal assistant. She uses machine-learning technology to predict and understand our natural-language questions and requests.

Alexa

When Amazon first introduced Alexa, it took much of the world by storm. Its usefulness and its uncanny ability to decipher speech from anywhere in the room has made it a revolutionary product. It helps us get any information from the web, shop, schedule appointments, set alarms and a million other things, and also help power our smart homes.

Tesla

Tesla is quite possibly one of the best cars ever made. Not only for the fact that it’s received so many accolades, but because of its predictive capabilities, self-driving features and sheer technology that caters to our millennials in a fascinating way. These vehicles are only getting smarter and smarter thanks to their over-the-air updates.

Amazon.com

Amazon’s transactional A.I. is something that’s been in existence for quite some time, allowing it to generate gigantic sums of money. With its algorithms refined more and more with each passing year, the company has gotten acutely smart at predicting just what we’re interested in purchasing based on our online behaviour.

Netflix

Netflix provides highly accurate predictive technology based on customer’s reactions to films. It analyses billions of records to suggest films that you might like based on your previous reactions and choices of films. This tech is getting smarter and smarter by the year as the dataset grows.

Pandora

Pandora’s AI is quite possibly one of the most revolutionary techs that exist out there today. They call it their musical DNA. Based on 400 musical characteristics, each song is first manually analysed by a team of professional musicians based on this criterion, and the system has an incredible track record for recommending songs.

Did you know?

  • Artificial emotional intelligence can gather data from a person’s facial expressions, body language, and more, analyze it against an emotion database to determine what emotion is likely being expressed, and then determine an action based on that information.
  • Artificial intelligence can even master creative processes, including making visual art, writing poetry, composing music, and taking photographs.
  • There are artificial intelligence researchers who are currently developing AI models that will be able to detect illnesses just by smelling a human’s breath.
  • AI-powered SummarizeBot can be used in Facebook Messenger that relies on Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, and Blockchain Technologies.
